People are stressed. People are overworked. It’s the 21th century, and we can do better. If we have anything to say about it (and trust us; we do), it’s this: the devil is in the details. The little things trip us up. Work email accounts must now be accessed through home, extra hours are required to finish projects, vacation-time conference calls are the norm, and on and on.
As we lose the barrier between leisure time and work time, our quality of life suffers. Relaxation begins to fit all too comfortably, hand-in-hand, with guilt. We at SubItUp think it’s time for change.
We need to reclaim our time. Like a Spanish Conquistador, we must plant our flag on the collective shores of “Free Time” and “Actual Life Outside Of Work”. Our contribution is an online scheduling system we’ve named SubItUp: a solution where employees and managers can inject more time back into our lives. But SubItUp is more than just a workplace solution – just like the personalities of our office are more than the jobs we perform. We want to change the world.
It’s no easy task.
It’s not too large of a secret that countries in Europe enjoy a more leisurely life than those in the United States. Compare our average of a 2-week vacation to their roughly 4 weeks, for instance. Here’s a telling observation: two-thirds of the Swiss have already adopted online scheduling – a now-integral part of their work-life balance.
We want the U.S. workforce to be a little more like the Swiss. More breaks, more free time. Space to reconnect with our families and time to swap stories at the dinner table. Leisure time to bring back board games and to walk just for the joy of it. To laugh and cry and remember who we are as individuals.
