New EmployeesOne of the most challenging things to do is to assimilate new employees into a company culture and workflow. We, at SubItUp, are no different than all of our customers that utilize our product to help manage employees. For us, a period of growth resulted in hiring employees.   After doing this a few times, we have figured out some things that work and others that do not.   We want to take this opportunity to share with you some important elements of the process of hiring and training employees that we found to be most beneficial.

Create Training Program - Have a document created that goes over the job description and expectations.  This seems obvious but there can never be enough detail put into this.  The process and demands of the job will change so be sure to keep it updated.  There should be a timeline defined so that new employees and managers know when certains levels of competency will be expected.  This is a road map for success.

Evaluate Employees - This is not a scenario of pass or fail.  It is not meant to be a source of stress for the new employee.  It would be more useful as an internal managment tool.  The purpose is to make sure you are setting up the employee for success and happiness.  Your company or department will function better if you have employees doing more of what they are good at, as opposed to floundering with what they struggle with.

Practical Practice - Give your new hires some on the job training.  Nothing compares to the real thing.  Allow the employees to interact with customers in a guided approach with a supervisor.

Communication Strategy - Now that you have gone through your training with your new employees, you are ready to let them fly on their own.  Be sure they are aware of where they can go for answers to questions that they will have.  A supervisor is key to making sure the employee feels comfortable with the knowledge you have given them.  Therefore, that supervisor needs to be made available or the employees need to know when they are available.   This will help foster continued training opportunities throughout their time with your comapny or department.
